I find it truly amazing and extremely frightening to see so many of us support the proposals for change from our new leader, Barack Obama, when it is so well known any politician’s main mode of communicating an idea is to dangle Bright Shiny Things before our eyes. (It eerily reminds me of an unscrupulous Insurance salesman making a living by only telling you part of the truth. If you heard the real details you may just say NO.)
“Tax the Rich!” … This Bright Shiny Thing really hits the core emotions of so many. The envy, jealousy, and rampant contempt the poor or lower income population feel for the rich is legendary and we are all aware of it. Tax The Rich motivates those that want to see the “wealthy pay their way for a change.” They don’t understand those they consider the “evil wealthy Americans” are as responsible as any other factor for our having the best quality of life ANYONE has enjoyed since the beginning of time.
I have news for you folks… Whatever you wish to call it, trickle down is a fact of life. It is a basic you cannot dodge. You either give the “Rich” tools with which to create jobs (a good thing) OR you tax them and regulate them to the point they have to pass the unnecessary costs downhill to you. (A bad thing.)
I feel a lot like I am watching my favorite Sport Fishing show. Mr. Obama throws out his favorite Bright Shiny Thing of the day and a multitude bite at it not even pausing to consider the consequences. Their reaction, more often than not, is, “Oh well. We have to try something.” Please look again at the fish chasing his Bright Shiny Thing… Look where he ends up when he follows his evolutionary instinct. He ends up in the frying pan.
Look at Nancy Pelosi bobbing up and down like a jack-in-the-box when the President spoke the other day! Joe Biden hasn’t physically worked that hard in a long long time as he attempted to keep up with her spasmodic gyrations. (That doesn’t really fit this essay but the humor of it sure brings a chuckle. Especially when you stop to think she is third in line for OUR Presidential slot. Woe is me… 
)
This all started when Presidential candidate Obama promised “change.” Did we need change? Certainly… of course we did… absolutely… yes… on and on and on. A thesaurus is full of ways to express it but it all means the same. It however would have been nice if people thought a little and actually listened to what Mr. Obama said pre-election. He was a Bright Shiny Thing that motivated America in a fashion that would make a Rapala fishing lure envious….
Hatred of George Bush and a bright new shiny thing like Barack Obama ended up being too much for many, many Americans to any longer even consider anything close to logic. Many, many Americans wanted change at any cost. Decisions based on Hatred of anything or any one never turns out well. Now I am afraid we all will feel the “costs” we will pay in ways no one can yet imagine. I think the fire is being stoked under the pan as I write this poor attempt at trying to sort out what is happening.
