Politics

Here we are folks.

Barack Obama will be the next President of OUR United States. As always time will tell if we went from the frying pan into the fire. IT is now our job to be sure he does not take us any further down the slippery slope we have been barely clinging to for the past FEW Presidencies.

IT IS WHAT IT IS!

Does that mean we do not have the right and/or the responsibility to point out what we see as his errors-in-judgment? Does that mean we should stand by the sidelines like mice or sheep?

I think not. I only pray we use the rational parts of our brains instead of what has been so evident in the last few months.

One thing is for certain. How people interpret our new President’s job performance will have a direct effect on their own personal memory. IF Barack Obama screws up those that voted for him will soon forget they even did. They will forget they voted for him just like they forgot they voted for George Bush. We have proven to be a very fickle breed, we Americans.

Those that voted for him will soon forget they elected Barack Obama just like they forgot they supported George’s move into Iraq.

YOU didn’t support Georgie you say? Good for you but don’t get too cocky. Your time may be coming. You don’t think so? I pray to God you are correct.

Before I get attacked on that front… No, I do not think Iraq was a good move. It is however now something we have to deal with in a rational manner. I am not willing to lose any more American lives in Iraq. I also am not willing to admit our 4,000 plus service men and women’s lives were lost for nothing… period. And no, two negatives do not make a positive, blah, blah, blah.

We have redefined the word bias and expanded the word predudice to include the majority of our population.  IF Barack’s first name happened to be George I am convinced the outcome would have been closer ONLY because of the irrational tie to George W. A very real stampede away from George Bush instead of a run to Barack Obama ensued… and prevailed.  I did not hear many debates at all from the electorate concerning actual issues.

Yes, Johnny is a Republican. Yes, yes, Johnny voted with Georgie on many issues. Yes Johnny had short comings.

The trouble is… We do not yet know Barack Obama’s shortcomings. Contrary to what some wish to think; He is NOT the Messiah.

Barack Obama has said little of his agenda except , “It is time for change.” I personally believe Barack Obama is an extremely intelligent and capable person. As an American I want and expect him to show us a true desire to keep America’s interests foremost instead of replacing them with his own personal agenda. It is something we have been missing for a long long time. Time will tell.

I think almost anyone that ran against ANY Republican would have prevailed. Perhaps even Nancy Pelosi.

See… It could have been a lot worse. History alone will log our wisdom… or our folly…

Beware folks… Change for the sake of change is not always a good thing. You may well get what you wish for.

More to follow…

One Response to Politics

  1. This was my latest post on the New York Times. The link is at the end if you are interested in the catalyst.

Sarah did get a raw deal. Now she is being thrown under the bus by those of less character than she that even dwell in her own party. Whatever happened to loyalty? No wonder we lost.

I do personally like Sarah Palin. I think it would be great to have dinner with her and her husband. I also did vote for Sarah and John. I truly believe it was the better choice… still. That having been said however I could not see her as President at this time had something happened to John.

On that note, one of the many people that would have to learn even more than she, would be me. Can you look in a mirror and say different… honestly?

Like most Americans you might notice my sentences are not all “properly” constructed either. Mine Grammer and mine sintax is not always in sync. That does not make myself nor Sarah bad people. That does make us average every day Americans. THAT is no sin. Average every day American is still a good thing to be.

I am a 56 year old Republican soon to be independent. I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt I speak for many of us normal “Joe’s,” that are truly ashamed of the performance and actions lately of what has been my party of choice for more than thirty years. No, I am not referring to Joe the plummer who was an unbelievable mistake.

I call for reason on both parts. The Democrats and the Republicans could both use a dose of anti-arrogance meds.

What just happened this past November 4th?

It seems the outcome of the election this past November 4th has in many cases already brought out the worst in many. Now we are facing attacks within the Party that does indeed bring shame on us all. Radical Muslim extremists have rightly been a target for what soon will be a decade. It is now time we also look at extremists from both our Parties that tear us apart and put all of us in peril. No I am not a dooms day, woe is me, watch out-the-sky-is-falling, advocate or believer. I am however a normal every day working class Christian, ex-Republican, now Independent, looking for some kind of moderation in a candidate for 2012.

We did indeed just pass what was in many ways one of the most historical elections ever. While all elections are emotionally charged I have never seen a President elected based on such an irrational vote for change. I also did not see any reason to throw away the baby with the bath water.

While change is always inevitable it is not always for the good. History will answer what- is-to-come much better than any speculation I can interject at this point in time.

I pray to God I am wrong. I pray to God we did not elect a President for all the wrong reasons. Majority does still rule however… as it should be. I pray there is not too much damage wrought on our system of free enterprise when it finally comes around to another chance to return to moderation. It is going to be a long four years.

It is now time to move forward.
